Methods of Social Promotion

This hub will teach you about the social promotion methods used by professionals in the advertising and marketing industry.

As I find out more about it, I will add it to the bottom of the page, and edit out bits which are no longer relevant.

By social promotion, I mean marketing to people on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, but also on social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon and Digg.

Out of all of the sites I just mentioned, I personally get the most traffic from Twitter, so I'll start there.

The Method of Social Promotion on Twitter

Twitter is very easy to understand, you have a short message to which you can attach links, and the aim is to get lots of people to see it, read it, and click on it, and perhaps buy something you have to offer.

There are many different sites which allow you to get followers for free, and also paid sites which offer social promotion services including tweeting for you, or increasing your follower count.

I would recommend using Twiends, as they have a lot of people on the site, and you can quite easily get a hundred followers a day or more.

Once you get up to the point where you're following 2,000 people, and you don't have as many followers of your own, you have to somehow find more people to follow you, before you can follow anyone else.

That's why Twiends offers to sell seeds. They used to have a Facebook like feature which made this easy to get around, but now you either have to keep checking in all day to find people offering 2 seeds or more, watch long You Tube videos, or unfollow people, in order to keep your follower/following ratio at a good level point.

I have signed up for a seeds package, and to pay for it, I made Professional Social Promotion, where you can buy social promotion services such as a scheduled tweeting spot on my account, and it will post your link every day for you.

Once you subscribe, you will never pay anymore than the amount you started with, while our followers list, and the amount of people you are tweeting to goes through the roof.

New customers will have to pay 10 cents per tweet for every thousand followers we have, and we are getting hundreds of new followers a day.

When the site started, we had 10,000, so the price was a dollar a day, or thirty dollars a month, but I can't tell you how many followers we have now, as it goes up too quickly.

I plan to put back in at least half of all the money made into finding new followers, and perhaps in a few years, there could be millions of followers on one account, particularly if everyone signed up to the site helps to promote it.

Anyway, enough about my site, here's a little more information on some other social promotion methods.

Facebook Promotion

After talking to some of the people on the webmaster forums, I'm sure that people are getting a lot of traffic from Facebook, but I think the way they are doing it is with paid ads, or by spamming people's profiles, groups and pages.

You can make a group, but how do you get people to join? Spamming, which really isn't appreciated on Facebook, and can get you thrown out of the site.

You can make a Facebook page, but then how do you promote it? You have to spam all your friends with invitations, and personally, I keep Facebook as more of a social site than a marketing site, but you may have a lot of luck with it.

I only use Facebook for social promotion by posting links that have widespread appeal in my news feed, and perhaps making the odd Facebook page.

Social Promotion on StumbleUpon

I really love StumbleUpon as a site for social promotion, it's gotten me the most traffic apart from Google and Twitter.

It takes a while for some people to realize how huge it can be, if you're an active member. You have to find hundreds of friends, who are accepting your shares to their toolbar, and voting them up.

In return, you have to do the same for them, every day, from the red numbers on your toolbar. If you don't vote their shares up, they will see, and they will probably unfollow, and the people who do keep following you won't be voting up your shares.

That's why some people get hundreds of thousands of hits on a page, while others who don't take the site seriously only get a few.

You also have to pick a really popular category like bizarre/oddities, recipes, art, music, or photography.

If you pick a category that people haven't checked, then it limits the amount of potential views. Basically, the more people who give it the thumbs up, the better it does, and some single pages have gotten as much as 500,000 views in a year.

That's pretty much it for what I know about the subject. You can see more social promotion methods, and have the option of paying me to do it all for you at Professional Social Promotion.
